My name is Miroslav Žiak, I live with my family in Tatranska Lomnica. I work as a professional meteorologist for a foreign energy company. I graduated from the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Comenius University in Bratislava at the Department of Physical Geography and Geoecology. My focus was geomorphology, meteorology and climatology. As part of these specializations, I continued my doctoral studies in the field of Physical Geography, Geoecology and Geoinformatics. I dedicated my scientific activity to the research of the high mountain environment, especially snow and avalanches. At the university, I lectured on natural threats and risks in the country (extreme weather). As part of my deep personal interest in glaciation in the High Tatras, I participated in the collection of samples for the dating of the last glaciation. In addition, as part of the written work for the dissertation exam, I compared the chronostratigraphic divisions of the Tatras Quaternary with world samples of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets, but also with samples of fossil Foraminifera organisms. In 2015, the largest Atlas of the Tatras was published, on which an international team of experts worked. I had the honor of developing a separate chapter in it. I collaborated with several expeditions in the Himalayas as a meteorologist. In the recent past, I received the authorization of the International Mountain Guide UIMLA, which I would like to use to pass on knowledge from my scientific and mountain area of interest. I organize several types of courses and lectures - avalanche courses, meteorological lectures, lectures on glaciation in the Tatras, ferrata courses, mountain survival courses...
